Soul Curry

It all started with that missing wada-pav and shrikhand in 2004.

Makarnd Karkhanis who came to New Zealand in 2002 was missing that wada-pav and great street food from India which was a routine there, was not available anywhere around. After starving for it for almost two years he decided to try to make it on its own. This also was a great opportunity to start a street food business. With absolutely no background and experience of cooking, his only hope was his sister back in India who was the excellent cook in whole family. She came to his rescue and guided him and gave him fine tips about the food through the telephonic conversations. Under her guidance for the first time in his life he made 50 kg Shrikhand a typical Western Indian festive sweet for Marathi Mandal in Auckland and made 300 happy souls. Though it was his first attempt, its huge success led to the launch of his food business.

In 2004 the first Indian street food caravan business under the name 'Soul Curry' was established in Auckland. This was a big hit.

Prior to the Covid outbreak we were serving multicuisine Indian food in our Auckland based restaurant. The dishes were based on regional cuisines, street food from Mumbai and Maharashtrian (Marathi) cuisine. Now, through our licensed cloud kitchen (which is our ice cream factory and experimental kitchen too), we are bringing you the same scrumptious food from different regional cuisines from great Indian subcontinent with the 18 years of experience of 'Soul Curry'.
